The Inter-Regional Wadden Sea Cooperation (IRWC) was established in 1994 in order to strengthen the joint efforts concerning the protection and sustainable use of the International Wadden Sea Area at the regional level.

The participants of the cooperation are representatives of regional
authorities of the six Wadden Sea Regions:
* the Danish Counties of Ribe and Sønderjylland;
* the German Federal State of Schleswig
-Holstein;
* the Dutch Provinces of Groningen, Fryslân and Noord-Holland.
