Subgroup 1: Designation of water bodies and typology
Topics: Definition of transitional and coastal waters within the Wadden Sea; definition of water body types within coastal waters. 
Size and delimitation of water body types; identification and designation of “Heavily Modified Water Bodies” in the Wadden Sea.

  

Subgroup 2: Assessment of the ecological status: Classification and reference values
Topics:
Definition of individual parameters for quality elements (WFD) and Targets (Wadden Sea Coop.) (with emphasis on biological quality elements); development of reference values/ranges for quality elements in the Wadden Sea (WFD).

 

Subgroup 3: Monitoring – changes to be made?
Topics:
Revision of national monitoring programs with regard to international requirements (TMAP, EU, OSPAR); cooperation in monitoring in the Wadden Sea with regard to the requirement of the Wadden Sea Plan (Target assessment)

 

Common Tasks (discussed by all three sub-groups): (1)  How to tune the WFD implementation activities with other international agreements in relation to an integrated Wadden Sea management?
(2) Can the Wadden Sea Cooperation / TMAP serve as a platform or support the information exchange in the Wadden Sea?
