1000 kilometres, 550 cyclists, 73 events, 2380 visitors – In June 2019 two core teams with representatives from Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation cycled from Ho Bugt, Denmark and Vlieland, Netherlands, to Wilhelmshaven, Germany. The occasion - the 10th anniversary of the Wadden Sea's inscription as a World Heritage site. In celebration of this special year, the Wadden Sea community set up an anniversary programme under the motto “One Wadden Sea: Our Heritage. Our Future.” with various regional and local events and activities. Its highlight was the Anniversary Bike Tour. The cyclists were regularly accompanied by interested day visitors, including school classes, clubs, NGOs and individual participants. To reflect on the tour and the entire year and to say thank you to the many organisations and people involved, the organisers now released a video with the tour impressions.

The release was combined with the official launch of the new Wadden Sea website, now also reached via the domain www.waddensea-secretariat.org and thereby retiring the old CWSS website. The new website merges the information on the World Heritage site and on the work of the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation. It further serves as platform for the members of the various groups within the Cooperation. The launch and video release were initiated by Chairperson Karin Lochte in the framework of the 30th Wadden Sea Board Meeting.

The Anniversary Bike Tour and the final event on 30 June in Wilhelmshaven were sponsored by the Danish Ministry for Environment and Food, the Dutch Ministry for Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, the German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, as well as the Lower Saxon Ministry for Environment, Energy, Building, and Climate Protection and the European Union in the framework of the Interreg project PROWAD LINK.
